At Studio Knotty, beauty and sustainability are closely connected. Many of the cords used in our macramé pieces begin as textile remnants from the garment industry—materials that might otherwise have been discarded.
From Textile Scraps to Macramé Cord
Our supplier collects leftover fabric from garment production and carefully sorts it by color. The fibers are then recycled and spun into soft, durable cord that can be knotted into something entirely new.
Because the fibers are sorted by their existing color, no additional dye is needed during this part of the process. That helps reduce the need for extra water and dye while giving useful material a second life.
Why the Color May Vary Slightly
Recycled cord does not always look exactly the same from one batch to the next—and we think that is part of its character. Small variations in color are a natural result of working with reclaimed fibers rather than producing every batch from newly dyed material.
Your Studio Knotty piece may have subtle differences from the photographs or from another piece in the same color. These variations are not flaws. They are a reminder that the cord has its own history and that materials once considered waste have been transformed into something useful and beautiful.
Made to Stay in Your Home
Sustainability is also about choosing things that will last. Studio Knotty plant hangers and wall décor are handmade slowly and thoughtfully, with the hope that they will remain part of your home for many years.
Macramé is not meant to be disposable décor. A well-cared-for piece can move with you, find a new place as your home changes, and even be passed along to someone you love. Each knot represents time, craftsmanship, and the belief that everyday objects can be both beautiful and responsibly made.
Choosing décor made with recycled textile cord may feel like a small decision, but small choices add up. By giving existing fibers another purpose and creating pieces designed for a long life, we can bring warmth and texture into our homes while being a little gentler on the planet.
